چکیده

Path planning is often a high-dimensional computationallyexpensive planning problem as it requires reasoning about the kinodynamic constraints of the robot and collisions of the robot with the environment. However, large regions of the environment are typically benign enough that a much faster low-dimensional planning combined with a local path following controller suffice. Planning with Adaptive Dimensionality that was recently developed makes use of this observation and iteratively constructs and searches a state-space consisting of mainly low-dimensional states. It only introduces regions of high-dimensional states into the state-space where they are necessary to ensure completeness and bounds on sub-optimality. However, due to its iterative nature, the approach relies on running a series of weighted A∗ searches. In this paper, we introduce and apply to Planning with Adaptive Dimensionality a simple but very effective incremental version of weighted A∗ that reuses its previously generated search tree if available. On the theoretical side, the new algorithm preserves guarantees on completeness and bounds on sub-optimality. On the experimental side, it speeds up 3D (x,y,heading) path planning with a full-body collision checking by up to a factor of 5. Our results also show that it tends to be much faster than applying alternative incremental graph search techniques such as D∗ to Planning with Adaptive Dimensionality.

Planning With Adaptive Dimensionality

Modern systems, such as robots or virtual agents, need to be able to plan their actions in increasingly more complex and larger state-spaces, incorporating many degrees of freedom. However, these high-dimensional planning problems often have low-dimensional representations that describe the problem well throughout most of the state-space. For example, planning for manipulation can be represente...

Incremental adaptive networks implemented by free space optical (FSO) communication

The aim of this paper is to fully analyze the effects of free space optical (FSO) communication links on the estimation performance of the adaptive incremental networks. The FSO links in this paper are described with two turbulence models namely the Log-normal and Gamma-Gamma distributions. In order to investigate the impact of these models we produced the link coefficients using these distribu...

On the effect of low-quality node observation on learning over incremental adaptive networks

In this paper, we study the impact of low-quality node on the performance of incremental least mean square (ILMS) adaptive networks. Adaptive networks involve many nodes with adaptation and learning capabilities. Low-quality mode in the performance of a node in a practical sensor network is modeled by the observation of pure noise (its observation noise) that leads to an unreliable measurement....

Distributed Incremental Least Mean-Square for Parameter Estimation using Heterogeneous Adaptive Networks in Unreliable Measurements

Adaptive networks include a set of nodes with adaptation and learning abilities for modeling various types of self-organized and complex activities encountered in the real world. This paper presents the effect of heterogeneously distributed incremental LMS algorithm with ideal links on the quality of unknown parameter estimation. In heterogeneous adaptive networks, a fraction of the nodes, defi...

Path Planning with Adaptive Dimensionality

Path planning quickly becomes computationally hard as the dimensionality of the state-space increases. In this paper, we present a planning algorithm intended to speed up path planning for high-dimensional state-spaces such as robotic arms. The idea behind this work is that while planning in a highdimensional state-space is often necessary to ensure the feasibility of the resulting path, large ...
